Firefighters are called for all kinds of different emergencies. This means firefighters need many different tools and trucks to carry those tools, to do their jobs.
Hamlin Fire currently has 8 different "vehicles" to do their job,
but not all of them are trucks!
We currently have 2 fire engines, 1 mini pumper/MFR, 1 brush truck, 1 tanker, 1 light rescue boat, 1 light trailer & 1 fire trailer.

Engine 1313 "Crash"2011 e-one Typhoon spartan pumper This is the "traditional" fire truck everyone knows. Engine 1313 is our primary vehicle for all structure fires, vehicle accidents, and vehicle fires within our response area. This engine carries many different multi use and specialty tools including hydraulic tools for vehicle extrication, ladders, hose, axes, pike poles, and rescue rope among many many more tools!

In addition to the over 1,200 feet of hose that 1313 carries is a 1,200 gallon water tank and a 30 gallon foam tank.
Equipped with a Hale pump and a CAFS (Compressed Air Foam System) 1313 is able to fight many types of fires. The foam system onboard 1313 allows it to fight a vehicle fire or a structure fire at a moments notice with the throw of a switch. Without the onboard CAFS system, firefighters would have to connect special equipment to their hoses which would take more time to get foam on the fire.

Engine 13122004 HME Pumper-RescueThe sister truck to 1313, 1312 is the primary engine for all mutual aid requests and secondary engine for incidents in our own response area. 1312 is equipped with much of the same equipment of 1313 including hydraulic tools, rescue air bags, hose, axes, ladders, gas monitor and much much more.

Unlike 1313, 1312 is not equipped with an onboard foam system. It is however, equipped with a favorite tool for many firefighters for putting out trash fires or illegal burns. This is the rubber hose reel. Rather than having to clean a full hose the rubber hose can be reeled back in with less fuss for the smaller fires.
The benefit to having two engines in our area is the ability to continue the highest level of service possible to our area. Fire trucks, like regular vehicles may occasionally need additional service or repair. If this were to happen and we only had one engine we would have to rely on our mutual-aid partners to help with our area. This would mean increased response times, which we work to avoid.

Tanker 13152006 Sterling Twin-axle Pumper-Tanker
While equipped with many traditional firefighting tools such as hose, axes, and pike poles; 1315 is also equipped with a 3,000 gallon water tank. 1315 is the work horse of Hamlin Fire, responding to every structure fire call in our response area as well as being called out to area fires in Eaton, Ingham and Jackson counties. 1315 is a member of the Southern Eaton County Tanker Task force with it's primary mission of water supply.
Equipped with a porta tank and over 1,200 feet of hose, 1315 can draft water from a pond, lake, river or pool to supply the fire scene with much needed water. 1315 can also get water from a city hydrant, dump water directly into the porta tank or nurse another truck. |
Mini pumper 1311
2010 Ford F-550 Super Duty Crew Cab
Unit 1311 serves as a Quick Response Vehicle (QRV) for our officers, offering the flexibility for them to take the truck home if they remain in the area. This enhances response times during emergencies, allowing officers to head directly to the scene with all necessary equipment, rather than first going to the station or responding in a personal vehicle without gear.
Much like several of our other tools, 1311 is a versatile, multi-purpose truck. It functions as a compact fire engine, equipped with a range of tools and a 300-gallon tank. Thanks to its design, 1311 can access areas that larger trucks cannot, making it an invaluable asset during various types of emergencies. |
In addition to its fire-fighting capabilities, 1311 is also the primary medical response vehicle at the Medical First Responder (MFR) level. As the secondary vehicle for many calls, it plays a crucial role in tackling small fires, assisting with brush fires, conducting water rescues, and supporting structure fires. It’s particularly well-suited for incidents where larger trucks can't navigate narrow driveways or other challenging terrain. Additionally, 1311 can be used to boost water flow and pressure by allowing another truck to pump through its system, ensuring a more effective response in critical situations.
brush 13182004 ford F-350 crew cabThe primary purpose of 1318 is to fight brush fires. With 4 wheel drive and light chassis 1318 can take it's up to 6 man crew where our other trucks cannot, off road to the seat of the fire. While our other trucks carry chair saws and extinguishers as well, 1318 carries wildland tools they do not. 1318 is equipped with rakes, shovels and brooms to not only put fires out but also prevent the fire from spreading.
